Wrightsville Beach Museum Junior Docent Club
We are proud to announce the launch of our new WBM Junior Docent program!
WBM Junior Docents is a free club for grades 6-12. WBM Junior Docents Club is a guided independent study program that empowers students to learn about the special history of Wrightsville Beach and Coastal Carolina through projects, activities, and lessons.
Junior Docents will learn how to use primary and secondary sources from the museum’s collection to investigate, preserve, and share history.
The museum will host meetups every Thursday and Saturday from 1-4pm. The museum special collections reading room will be available to students whenever the museum is open.
Junior Docents will learn how to organize and explain their research using the National History Day research guidelines. We support all participants who wish to enter their projects into competitions such as the THJH Annual Convention & Contest and National History Day affiliated events.
This program operates on a rolling basis and is partially self-directed. We are happy to work with our participants to credit club hours towards volunteer hour obligations or school credit needs. High school students are also eligible to participate in our internship program to build museum operations skills.
Keep an eye on this space for more details or reach out to the museum for more info!
WBM Junior Docent Club is a part of the Tar Heel Junior Historian Association program administered by the North Carolina Museum of History.
